Ground Breaking at the Rockwood Municipal Airport
The City of Rockwood , Tennessee is announcing a groundbreaking for the construction of RSA (Runway Safety Area) extensions and a parallel taxiway. The event is scheduled for Monday, February 12, 2007 at 1:00 PM (EST).
Federal and state funds have been employed as a match grant to meet FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) guidelines requiring all airports to include a Runway Safety Area at the ends of all runways. This requirement is necessary to qualify for any federal or state grant funds.
The 5,000 ft. parallel taxiway enables aircraft to taxi without interrupting with landings or takeoffs. This important factor greatly increases safety for jet aircraft.
The Rockwood Airport is an important component in the commercial development project governed by The Industrial Development Board of Cumberland, Morgan, and Roane Counties. Air transportation and nearby interstate 40 make this an ideal spot for industry to have access for supplies and shipping for The Plateau Partnership Park.
The public is cordially invited by the Rockwood Airport Steering Committee to join in celebrating this event. The Committee consists of Darryl Meadows (Chair), Gene East, and Glen Long. The Rockwood Mayor, Mike (Brillo) Miller, and City Council join in anticipation of the development of this area that includes the three counties of Roane, Cumberland , and Morgan.
Invited guests include TDOT representatives (Tennessee Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division) and all County Mayors and Commissioners .
The airport is located 1.1 miles north on highway 299 at Exit 340 on Interstate 40.
